by GIDRM

On the 4th of October 2017, the Annual Purok Talks Summit organized by Metro Cebu Development and Coordinating Board (MCDCB) and Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Incorporated (RAFI), took place in Cebu City, Philippines. During the high-level summit, the latest OECD Green Growth Study with the title “Green Growth in Cebu, Philippines” was officially launched and the key findings were presented. The study is looking at the economic, social and environmental performance of the Cebu metropolitan area. GIDRM supported the OECD in assessing policies for strengthening urban resilience and disaster risk management in six cities including, besides Cebu metropolitan region, the city of Bandung (Indonesia), Bangkok (Thailand), Hai Phong (Viet Nam) and Iskandar Malaysia (Malaysia) as part of the Urban Green Growth in Dynamic Asia Study series.

The OECD study on Green Growth in Cebu recognizes the collaboration between Cebu Province, MCDCB, the University of San Carlos and GIDRM to facilitate the integration of scientific data in local DRRM planning through the development of a province wide multi-hazard suitability map using the suitability model approach that has been piloted under GIDRM I. The OECD study features the suitability model as a good example for evidence-based and risk-informed decision making in local planning and budgeting risk-informed investment planning. Furthermore, the OECD study recognizes the efforts of GIDRM in supporting Cebu Province and MCDCB in assisting LGUs in the development and alignment of local DRRM and CCA plans.

Stephan Huppertz, the Regional Coordinator of GIDRM in Asia, together with the President and CEO of RAFI and the Presidents of Cebu and Mandaue City Chamber of Commerce was invited to take part in a panel discussion as part of the official launch of the report in Cebu, Philippines.
