An agreement for the implementation of a Mini Fire Brigade was signed in Bangladesh

by GIDRM

Heavy traffic and limited infrastructure in Bangladesh present major challenges to the fire services in Bangladesh working on fire prevention and safety in garment factories. GIZ has been working on an integrated fire prevention and safety concept for the garment industry within the framework of the Global Initiative on Disaster Risk Management.

In this regard, a cooperation agreement was signed on 11th March with Dulal Brothers Limited Group (DLB) in Dhaka-Bangladesh to establish the first Mini-Fire Brigade in the country. The Mini-Fire Brigade will be enabled to respond immediately in the case of an incident in the Kashimpur-Gazimpur region. Within the framework of a Public-Private Partnership, this agreement includes capacity building for full time firefighters and volunteers, as well as suitable firefighting equipment and the development of a specialised vehicle with different extinguishing systems, a hydraulic cutter and spreader.
